Videos > The Radical Road – 2012

12 November, 2012

This stop motion video shows the creation of my 2012 picture – The Radical Road.

The Radical Road was a track built in Edinburgh’s Holyrood Park by unemployed weavers from the west of Scotland in the aftermath of the 1820 Scottish insurrection. Sir Walter Scott gave some of the Radicals the option of building the road as a kind of community service. The picture itself is something of an homage to the language of early 20th century communist propaganda – I thought that given the tale has socialist overtones that was only appropriate.

The music was performed by ‘The Turkey Smokers’- who last featured in my epic Tam o’ Shanter mural video. Video editing by the peerless Mettje Hunneman- she’s all over that stuff.
