I made a donation to the Samaritans a few years ago in exchange for some large round frames. For a long time I didn't know what to do with them, but eventually I hit on the idea of using the round format to revisit the tradition of trophy heads. I painted Scottish horned beasts into the frames on the round, and mocked up the frames as leather-bound "targes" or shields. Each of the images is about a metre in diameter and when hung as a group of five, they created a bold mood in a gallery.
