Artwork > Archive > Murals > The Hanging of Maggie Dickson, Grassmarket

The Grassmarket mural was designed to be another audience participation event, telling the story of Edinburgh's historic Grassmarket and concentrating on one of the areas most famous residents: Maggie Dickson.
Visitors to the 2014 Edinburgh Festival were invited to be a part of the mural and become the audience on the day of her execution. It was a macabre offer but many took part.

Just out of college I ended up as a regular for the iconic ‘Select’ music magazine.I Painted them these three wee illustrations while Oasis were in their pomp. The first is Noel and Liam depicted in a pastiche of ‘Open All Hours’ , the second a commentary piece mythologising the different sides of Liam and the third the two boys depicted as the cast of tv’s sitcom ‘the Likely Lads’ I think I still have the paintings somewhere around the house… these were fun to do but always turned out overnight on a deadline. ...
