A Guest artist and a poignant thought for today. This painting is called ‘Flowers from my Garden’ by my Granny, Marion Smith. She would have been in her eighties when she painted it in the late 1980s, it was her hobby in retirement. We have it in our kitchen, it’s the view over my coffee and toast in the morning. There may be ‘cooler’ images out there, but to me it feels like a precious gift to have the trace of her hand on the wall.Direct and sincere. The paint has her breath bonded to the pigment, a whisper from the past. A little piece of immortality. A message in a bottle. Ultimately I think that’s what keeps me going… an obligation to use my thumbs fruitfully. Because eventually the shadow of my passing soul is all that will be left. ... See moreSee less
